Picnics, Parades, and Spider Bites

My Weekend

So I thought I would tell you a little bit about my week/weekend.  The spider bite happened Wednesday night.  I was sleeping on the couch when I felt an odd itching sensation in the crook of my right elbow.  In my sleepy haze I stumbled to the light switch to get a better look.  Hmmm...looks like a mosquito bite.  Brilliant me just goes right back to sleep.  I don't notice it again until Thursday night.  I look down and there is a suspicious 1" diameter ring of swollen redness around the bite.  I show my boyfriend and he says "it really doesn't look that bad, I really don't see much".  So I let it go.

Friday night I decided to stay home and do nothing.  This is something I have been waiting to do for about 2 months now and just haven't had the time.  So I get into my PJ's, make me an egg sandwich and a huge salad, and settle on the couch with my remote.  The movie I picked to watch was Made of Honor...LOVE IT.  As my Friday nights usually go in my exciting life, I was asleep by 10:30...but here is the glorious part...I had NOTHING to wake up for on Saturday.  Everyone had strict instructions not to call or come over or even breathe around me cause gosh darnit!...I was going to sleep in!!!  And what an awesome day it was.  I layed around dozing in and out of yummy sleep drenched goodness (forgetting all about my spider bite) until 4 PM!  Saturday night Mike and I took the kids to the Red Bud Firemans Picnic.  This is something I have been doing since I was a little girl so it was fun to take the kids to do it.

My mom and dad met us up there and I showed off my spider bite.  After everyone looked at it and gave their "freak me out" opinions, it suddenly grew in size, color, and overall terribleness overnight.  My mom called my grandma to have her bring me up this sticky gross orange stuff to put on it.  Its one of those at home treatments that only little old ladies have in their bathroom closets, that could probably cure everything from the common cold to cancer if given the opportunity.

Sunday was the parade that goes along with the picnic every year.  Its always a great parade.  Most of them around here have turned into political campaigning parades, so its nice to go to one that is still all about the kids.  And the BEADS...holy Mardi Gras!!!  I have never seen so many beads with no shirtless women around!  They were throwing out handfuls of these things and the kids were going CRAZY over them!

After the parade we chilled at the picnic for a while munching on hamburgers and french fries, and funnel cakes.  After that we took the kids home and chilled on the couch for a couple of hours to unwind.  I bandaged up my arm with the gross orange sticky stuff and went to bed.

I woke up this morning with the hopes that my arm would be miraculously healed from the grandma ointment, but no such luck...all is exactly how I left it.  I put in a call to the nearest ER and asked what symptoms I should watch for and when to see a doctor.  Naturally every time he asked if I had a symptom that would lead me to a slow painful death, I suddenly developed it.  So now I am properly freaked enough to go to the UrgiCare and have it looked at.  So I will keep you posted!!
